That, along with a few other reasons, is why I gave up on the whole internet dating scene ages ago. I just wanted to comment first on the number of people who see it as a failing in their profiles- look, there's millions on those sites, so making it out like you're too good to be there is pretty silly. But I agree - it's turned into the new meat-market, coupled with the internet's inherent anonymity, so the chances you're going to find "The One" are pretty much nil.

I've met some nice people through a few sites, and made some good friends, but otherwise - a total waste of time and money :)

I certainly can't fault you for internet dating, but there is something really predatory about it. Obviously it can lead to great friends (or great big freaks). I started every significant relationship doing something I enjoyed out in the world (singing, dancing, drinking...) and then in the middle of it there was this guy. The internet is full of people who are searching for people to use and judge. They decide things about you without ever looking you in the eye, without hearing your voice or considering your real personality. Photos of my fiance would be, let's be honest, pretty unattractive on a dating site. I'd probably pass him up amidst the barrage of photogenic Texan boys who list hockey and snowboarding as major interests (really?!) and the 5'4" fiftysomethings who say they're looking for "romance."

...Although it's been a while since I browsed those dating sites. Are the girls still tanned and wearing bikinis? Seems like the dichotomy between advertisement and real product was like the difference between the Sahara and a sandbox. :-P I vote you do the thing guys do in the movies. Go out, and be borderline rude to a really cute girl. That seems to work every time.
